New math textbooks

Go Math Every six years a subject will be up for a textbook readoption.  This year the elementary school and the high school’s math department textbooks were up for re-adoption.  USD 409 goes through a process whenever it's time to adopt new books. The process consists of looking at textbooks that meet the Kansas Curricular Standards and involves rigorous and engaging work and resources that meet the needs of all students.  Our curriculum director brings in those vendors that meet the criteria that our district has lined out. The teachers will then look at samples of books that the district is sent. Each teacher or team goes through a process to rate the materials based on the above criteria as well until they decide on one textbook.  This same process is repeated anytime we adopt a textbook in USD 409. This year Atchison Elementary School adopted GoMath, which is a Houghton Mifflin Harcourt product. Our high school adopted a math series by the same publisher, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. The middle school math textbook will be up for adoption in two years, at that time they will also go to a Houghton Mifflin Harcourt textbook.  Using the same textbook from one publisher is a great way to help with alignment as well as continuity between grades PreK-12. Stay tuned for more information about GoMath and HMH Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2.
