Bad Weather Procedures

Notification Policy

BAD WEATHER PROCEDURES

2007 - 2008

Timelines
A.   If a decision to cancel school is made the night before,
        it will be made by 10:00 p.m.
B.   Any morning decision will be made prior to 6:00 a.m.
 
Early Dismissal
A.    If an early dismissal is necessary, all classes will be dismissed
B.    All practices and events will be canceled.  The only exception will be a
         high school event which cannot be rescheduled.
C.    At the elementary level, all students must be accounted for prior to release.
D.     Northeast Kansas Technical College evening class cancellations will be announced by 2:30 p.m. the day of the class.  This decision will be made by the Superintendent & college administration.
 
Notification
A.  Notification will be given to:
                 1.   District web site – to be displayed at the top of the front page    
              2.  Text Cast
                 3.   Radio Stations:      
                                                 KAIR, 1470 AM/93.7 FM (Atchison)                     
                                                  KNZA, 104 FM (Hiawatha) 
                                                  94 Country Radio
                  4.   Television Stations:   
                                                  WIBW, Channel 13 (Topeka)
                                                  KQ-2, Channel 2 (St. Joseph)
                                                  KCTV-5, Channel 5 (Kansas City)
                                                  KMBC, Channel 9 (Kansas City)
                                                  WDAF, Fox Channel 4 (Kansas City)
                                                  KSHB-TV, Channel 41 (Kansas City)
B. Early dismissal notification same as above.
 
Decision Options.
A.            Have school and run buses.
B.            Have school and run buses on an “as can complete route” basis.
C.            Have school and start buses late a specified amount of time
               (i.e., one hour late).
D.            Do not have school.
                1.            All after school practices, meetings, etc., will be canceled.
                2.            All middle school contests will be considered.
                3.            High school contests will be considered on a per event basis as
                                per commitments, tournaments, etc. Safety will still be
                                of paramount importance.
 
Work Responsibilities.
A.            If there is no school, the following employees will still report to work
                 unless notified.
                 1.            Administrators
                 2.            Secretaries
                 3.            Maintenance Staff
                 4.            Custodial Staff
